Treatment with Medication

There are many symptoms that Medications can't help. And, they're not right for all conditions or for every person. But medications can be a very effective first-line treatment. Medication is personal. Here's an overview of the medications we most often prescribe, how they work, how they help.

Stimulants

There are two kinds of stimulants: the methyl-phenidate family and the amphetamine clan. They act in different ways, but they both

stimulate the dopamine circuit with a resultant benefits including improvement in concentration, organization and prioritization (to name a few)

Amphetamines: ® Dexedrine, ® Adderall XR, ® Vyvanse

Methyl-phenidates: ® Ritalin,

® Concerta, ® Biphentin and

® Foquest

Non-stimulants: ® Strattera

Mood Stabilizers

The mood stabilizers we use either block glutamate (decreases overstimulation) or stimulate GABA (increases serenity) or both. The result is a dramatic decrease in anger, agitation, irritability; fewer highs and lows and more peace of mind.

Anti-depressants

There are many types of antidepressants. The three most common families are 1) Serotonin stimulating (SSRI) 2) Serotonin and Noradrenaline stimulating  (SNRI) 3) Noradrenaline and Dopamine stimulating (NDRI). They work to increase energy, motivation and self- soothing.
