Why do I need to pay for a receipt? Good question. In the old days, we could print out a receipt at the front desk and that was that. Now, all that super sensitive information is being transmitted through the internet. So for security reasons, it's not that simple. To keep your data secure, your administrative data, your confidential medical information and your financial information are stored in separate databases. But your insurance co wants all that data on one receipt. That means we have to log in to three differnt programs, export the information manually, annotate the date of payment and date of service (which are different) and then put the whole thing together. I hate to have to do it, but that's a lot of effort, and so we need to charge you a nominal fee of $30. Phew!
Side note: You can't claim this under 'counseling', because I'm not in their counselor database. You have to claim it under 'Physician-psychotherapy, service not covered by MSP."
Just about every other province in Canada covers physician psycotherapy, like Ontario and Alberta, where I was trained in psychotherapy. BC MSP does not cover it. So, to get your money back from the insurance co, you call it 'services not covered by MSP'.
